I’m kinda gettin’ into the collage thing. It could be just a phase, but I have found it to be a great way — on so many levels — to spend time in the studio. Putting together a collage makes me think differently and faster about composition because it’s so easy to change the balance with a quick turn of a swatch of painted paper.

There are lots of “happy accidents,” which are so essential to my process. Meaning, if I make a mistake and it’s better than my intended choice, I go with the mistake. And with these collages, happy accidents happen more than unhappy intentions.

Thank you, Muse!

This latest collage in the Princess FH series was much more roughly worked than the others. This one was ripped, re-placed, drawn on, painted on, scraped, cut and gouged. Yep, gouged. Then, when I uploaded it into Instagram and played with the photo filters….  well, it was just pure joy.
