Why do I paint doors?

Long answer: they are rectangles so they make a nice, solid composition on a rectangular or square canvas, they are a perfect symbol with lots of meaning for me (passages, portals, thresholds, opportunity, and more), and because one of my formative moments in art school was listening to Dr. Walter Rutkowski’s advice to do at least 20 versions of an image to really explore it. Well, I’ve probably done closer to 200, but the welcome mat for the door motif has not yet been worn out.

Short answer: I like ’em.
